Biography
A side venture from Niclas Frohagen of SHUBEND, DOLEFUL SHADE, NINGIZZIA and GENESIS OF PAIN. Originally projected as a solo project, the Halmstad based FOREST OF SHADOWS subsequently evolved through an ever fluctuating line-up. Frohagen first debuted FOREST OF SHADOWS, initially as a one man venture, with the 1998 demo recording 'Under The Dying Sun'.
Guitarist Johan Svensson would come on board but would leave prior to the next promotional session 'The Silent Cry'. Frohagen then enrolled Micce Andersson on bass, drums and keyboards cutting a version of KATATONIA's 'Rainroom' before pulling together a full band with Martin Claesson on guitar and Tommy Rydberg on drums. However by 2000 both Claesson and Rydberg would be out of the picture.
For the inaugural FOREST OF SHADOWS gig, which took place on the 17th February 2000 the group was to have comprised of Frohagen, Claesson, Andersson on drums and stand in bassist Martin Olsson. Unfortunately Olsson suffered an accident the day before and so SHUBEND's Martin Pettersson took the role. Another bassist was inducted, Robert Martensson, but he too would decamp. Finally VINTERBLOD's Oscar came in to relieve Andersson of the drummer's role and enable a switch back to bass guitar.
With Claesson making his exit too FOREST OF SHADOWS pulled in the sibling team of Fredrik and Richard Johansson on guitar and drums respectively. A deal was struck with the Molded Skull label but complications would witness the band switching to the British Rage Of Achilles imprint for the release of the EP 'Where Dreams Turn To Dust'.
The band, signing to Finnish label Firebox Records subsidiary Firedoom, projected a new album 'Departure' for October 2004 issue. Mastering duties were handled by Mika Jussila at Finnvox in Helsinki. The band contributed their version of 'Rainroom' to the Northern Silence Productions KATATONIA tribute double album 'December Songs' released in December 2006.
