This quirky,talented and prolfic guitarist from Gothenburg has drawn complimentary comparisons to STEVE VAI and claims to be heavily inspired by FRANK ZAPPA and KISS. Eklundh going by the nickname of 'IA' got his start in the music world in 1988 as a member of the band FROZEN FIRE. After a four year tenure and some production duties on the side he joined the Danish act FATE and appeared on the 'Scratch And Sniff' album.

In 1993 he appeared as a guest on an album called 'The Weight' by fellow Gothenburg act PAGAN. He eventually left FATE to form his own band called FREAK KITCHEN who have had a long and succesful recording career. Over the years while operating FREAK KITCHEN, Mattias has appeared as a guest musician on albums by EVERGREY, SOILWORK, LOCOMOTIVE BREATH and has appeared on many tribute albums including ones for YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and JASON BECKER.

Eklundh also operates a solo project called MR. LIBIDO and released the album 'Sensually Primitive' in 1997. He continued to tour and release instructional videos and DVD's especially in Japan.

Apparently his own band and solo project was not enough to satisfy his artistic endevours so he released another solo album in 1999 under his own name. It was called 'Freak Guitar' on the Thunderstruck label. Oddly enough there were perhaps some merit to the comparisons to STEVE VAI as his debut solo album was reissued in 2002 on Vai's own Favoured Nation record label.

In 2004, Eklundh and Favoured Nations released a second solo affair also under the Eklundh name, called 'Freak Guitar: The Road Less Travelled'. It is not so much as an cohesive album but more a wide collection of collected bits and pieces, cover tunes, guitar solos all in various styles with many of the compostions only a minute long. A glance at Eklundh's song-titles and off-beat sense of humour will expose the reasons why the talented guitarist has a reputation for a unique approach to music, which is unlikely to change anytime soon.
