Metalcore act forged during the early nineties by guitarist Daniel Granstedt, bassist Marcus and drummer Niklas 'N1c' Osterlund. By 1994 Marcus had switched to the guitar role and Håkan Skoger, of GARDENIAN and PASSENGER repute, was recruited on bass. Recording sessions conducted in 1996 saw Jim Kjell of GARDENIAN aiding on vocals, this unit conducting an inaugural gig the following year. Magnus 'Mange' Klavborn took over the frontman's role 1998 demos 'Wake Up' and 'Sleepy' with a third set, entitled 'Beyond What's In Front', arriving in 1999. HEADPLATE signed to Gain Productions in 2000 for the 'Bullsized' album, although not before losing the services of Marcus. Prominent gigs in 2001 included appearances at the Swedish 'Hultsfred' festival and Finnish 'Tuska' event. They would also act as support to MACHINE HEAD's Scandinavian gigs.

Håkan Skoger bowed out in 2003, being substituted by Johan Andreassen. HEADPLATE's 'Pieces' album, actually an assemblage of the debut 'Bullsized' and 2002's follow up 'Delicate' tracks, was delivered in November of 2003.

In April 2006 Johan Andreassen joined the high profile ENGEL, featuring guitarists Marcus Sunesson, ex-THE CROWN, and Niclas Engelin, of PASSENGER, GARDENIAN and IN FLAMES repute, drummer Morbid Mojjo (a.k.a. Daniel Moilanen), a veteran of MINDSNARE, SANDALINAS, RUNEMAGICK, DRACENA, RELEVANT FEW and LORD BELIAL together with vocalist Mangan Klavborn.
