Biography

In March 2005 a new Metal formation was announced with ENGEL, a Gothenburg based quintet featuring guitarists Marcus Sunesson, ex-THE CROWN, and Niclas Engelin, of PASSENGER, GARDENIAN and IN FLAMES repute, drummer Morbid Mojjo (a.k.a. Daniel Moilanen), a veteran of MINDSNARE, SANDALINAS, RUNEMAGICK, DRACENA, RELEVANT FEW and LORD BELIAL, bassist Robert Hakemo, ex-GARDENIAN and GOOSEFLESH together with vocalist Mangan Klavborn. However, Robert Hakemo exited in late April, being immediately superseded by HEADPLATE's Johan Andreassen.

ENGEL made their live debut on 8th July at the 'Dirty Black Summer' festival in Södertälje. A four track demo was issued. Former EVERGREY and THE PROJECT HATE man Michael Håkansson joined the band in August. That same month Robert Hakemo joined M.A.N.

In November 2006 Niklas Engelin filled in for his old act IN FLAMES, subbing for Jesper Strömblad, who was "sitting out the group's current tour in order to deal with some personal issues'.

Michael Håkansson joined ALL ENDS in April 2007. 'Absolute Design', the debut album from ENGEL received its US release on May 20th 2008 via SPV/Steamhammer. That year ENGEL drafted British bass player Steve Drennan of LOCUS.

ENGEL recorded its sophomore album at PUK studio in Gjerlev, Denmark with producer Tue Madsen, wrapping up proceedings in December 2008. The band played the THIN LIZZY, SAXON, UFO, MOTÖRHEAD and HEAVEN AND HELL headlined August 2009 'Wacken Open Air' festival in Germany.
