Falun based melodic Death Metal debuted with an April 1996 demo entitled 'Forever Closed'. WITHOUT GRIEF's September 1997 debut album 'Deflower', issued via Danish label Serious Entertainment, featured guitarist Nicklas Lindh and bassist Ola Berg. November 1999's 'Absorbing The Grief', released by Serious Entertainment once again, saw Björn Tauman of CUDFISH and CHAINWRECK taking over on bass and Daniel Thide installed on second guitar. Japanese editions of the album, on the Soundholic label, added an exclusive bonus track in the form of a cover of MOTȪRHEAD's 'Iron Fist'.

Post WITHOUT GRIEF guitarist Tobias Ols and Nicklas Lindh together with Ola Berg forged Death / Thrashers 21 LUCIFERS. Drummer Patrik Johannsson would enroll into STORMWIND and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN's band.

WITHOUT GRIEF singer Jonas Granvik resurfaced in 2003, vocalising on EDGE OF SANITY's 'Crimson II' opus. Granvik featured as backing vocalist on THE PROJECT HATE's 2005 album ''Armageddon March Eternal (Symphonies Of Slit Wrists)'. That same year two WITHOUT GRIEF personnel, Jonas Granvik and Patrik Johannsson resurfaced as part of Västervik Progressive Death Metal band DEAD END WORLD. Bowing in with a demo billed 'The Isolation' this act saw the pair ranked alongside TAD MOROSE veteran Kristian Andrén on "Melodic" vocals, guitarist Simon Johansson of MEMORY GARDEN and FIREGOD and bassist Roger Johansson of RIBSPREADER and PAGANIZER.
