Biography

Fagersta / Lindesberg Deathsters SUFFER date to 1988, when the first line-up comprised of vocalist Joakim Öhman, bassist Patrik Andersson and drummer Conny Granqvist. A demo, 'Cemetary Inhabitants', surfaced in December 1989. The group added guitarist Ronny Eide, editor of 'Morbid' fanzine, in 1990, but a line-up shuffle saw Granqvist depart in favour of ex-MAMACLAW, WORTOX and ALTAR drummer Per Karlsson. A second demo, entitled 'Manifestation Of God', was recorded at Sunlight Studio in Stockholm with producer Tomas Skogsberg and released in 1991. Utilising Sunlight Studio once again, SUFFER cut three tracks, two of which emerged on the 'On Sour Ground' EP, issued via French imprint New Wave in 1993, and the third, 'Wrong Side Of Life', remaining unused, originally intended for a proposed compilation album.

In January 1992 guitarist Ronny Eide left the band, being replaced by Uffe Samuelsson. This revised version of SUFFER put out the 'Global Warming' EP in May 1993. Another EP, 'Thrashing The North Away', was recorded live in Lulea. Released in December, only 300 copies were pressed. Following the release of the 1995 'Structures' album, produced by Tomas Skogsberg and DISMEMBER drummer Fred Estby issued through the Austrian Napalm label, SUFFER splintered. Andersson opted out to join IN BETWEEN DAYS. With only and Joakim Öhman and Per Karlsson remaining, a brief attempt to keep the band going by inducting guitarists T-Ban and Pontus from KAZJUROL proved short-lived. Öhman attempted a resurrection of SUFFER, with erstwhile members of ABHOTH guitarist Jörgen Kristensen and drummer Mats Blückert, but this would not come to fruition.

Guitarist Ulf Samuelsson joined the THERION offshoot band SERPENT for their 'In The Garden Of The Serpent' album. He was joined by a further SUFFER member drummer Per Karlsson in 1996. The following year Karlsson joined T.A.R., featuring on the albums 'Fear Of Life' and 'Tar And Feathers For The Millennium'. The sticksman also activated Megagrind Productions, serving the extreme Metal scene with a stream of album releases.

Per Karlsson would join NOMINION during November 2001. Jörgen Kristensen joined DEAD AWAKEN the following year. Mats Blückert enrolled himself into GODHATE in April 2006.
