Biography
DRAGONLAND include former PROPHANITY and NIGHTSHADE guitarist Nicklas Magnusson, erstwhile RAPTURE guitarists Olof Mörck and Nicklas Magnusson along with KING DIAMOND touring keyboardist Elias Holmlid in the ranks. Holmlid is also a member of IRONWARE and session man for FALCONER. Drummer Jesse Lindskog had worked with NOSTRADAMEUS during 2000.
DRAGONLAND's debut album 'The Battle Of The Ivory Plains', released by the Greek Black Lotus label, was clad in fantasy cover art executed by SUPREME MAJESTY guitarist Chrille Andersson. A second album for Black Lotus, 'Holy War', emerged in 2002. In August of that year former NOSTRADAMUS drummer Jesse Lindskog was inducted into the line-up. DRAGONLAND undertook a headline tour of Japan in May 2003.
The band signed a multi-album worldwide deal with Germany's Century Media Records in early 2004, utilising Division One Studios owned by Tom Englund of EVERGREY for a new album entitled 'Starfall'. Japanese editions, issued on the King label, added an extra two tracks in cover versions of X's 'Rusty Nail' and HELLOWEEN's 'Sole Survivor'. EVERGREY guitarists Englund and Arnold Linberg would act as producers for the project. In June guitarists Olof Mörck and Nicklas Magnusson forged a Death Metal side venture under the name THE RETURNING in league with vocalist Patric Johansson.
In mid 2005 DRAGONLAND supported YNGWIE MALMSTEEN on a brace of UK shows at London's Hammersmith Apollo and Nottingham Rock City. The 'Starfall' album saw a North American release in July via Magick Records, a subsidiary of Cleopatra Records. In January 2006 Jesse Lindskog joined DREAMLAND.
The group utilised Studio Fredman in Gothenburg in July 2006, working with producer Fredrik Nordström, to record their fourth album, 'Astronomy'. Olof Mörck would be linked to a new project dubbed AVALANCHE. The guitarist was also involved with a high profile side act, DEAD BY APRIL, fronted by singer Jimmie Strimell of PAINFIELD, NIGHTRAGE and DEATHDESTRUCTION repute, and featuring M.A.N guitar player Martin Meyerman, bassist Staffan Persson of WHEN WE FALL plus drummer Richard Evansand, whose scene credentials included SORCEROR, MANIC DEPRESSION, IT'S ALIVE, SOUTHPAW, DOG FACED GODS, DEMONOID, THERION, LIONS SHARE and EBONY TEARS.
