Biography

Dalarna, Falun based Heavy Metal band SABATON, founded in 1999, is fronted by the STORMWIND credited Joakim Brodén and features ANOXIA drummer Daniel Mullback. The band's 'Fist For Fight' demo, laid down at Moon Music Studios in the Spring of 2000, would see an official commercial release through the Italian Underground Symphony label, the band adding new songs recorded at Abyss Studios. These sessions were crafted by Joakim Brodén, Daniel Mullback, guitarists Rickard Sundén and Oskar Montelius with Pär Sundström on bass. The band scored a noteable victory at the Härnösand 'Musik Direkt' competion in May 2001, winning as 'Best unsigned act'. That same year ex-SABATON drummer Richard Larsson joined ORPHAN GYPSY then SKYRIDE. The SABATON album 'Fist For Fight' arrived in May 2002.

A new album, 'Metalizer', would be cut at Abyss Studios by Tommy Tägtgren and Studio Moon Music with Mats Brännlund and readied for 2004 again for Underground Symphony. However, this record never emerged. Undaunted, SABATON entered Abyss Studios in February 2004 to craft an all new record billed 'Primo Victoria' for Black Lodge Records. The group, having added keyboard player Daniel Myhr, returned in July 2006, issuing their third album 'Attero Dominatus'. SABATON, with Richard Larsson temporarily back on drums, supported LORDI in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö in September.

Black Lodge Records finally released the vaulted 'Metalizer' album, boasting the 'Fist For Fight' sessions, in 2007. Limited editions added a cover version of JUDAS PRIEST's 'Jawbreaker'. 'Metalizer' hit number 21 on the Swedish charts.

'The Art Of War' album, recorded at Abyss Studios with Tommy and Peter Tägtgren, was released by Black Lodge Records in May 2008, preceded by the single 'Cliffs Of Gallipoli'. The album was released in regular CD format, a limited edition CD hosting a booklet of 'The Art Of War' ancient Chinese military manual upon which the concept of the album was rooted, and a double vinyl gatefold edition.

Summer touring including major European festivals such 'Sweden Rock', Dessel's 'Graspop Metal Meeting' headlined by KISS, IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST, the Vizovice 'Masters Of Rock topped by DEF LEPPARD and the IRON MAIDEN headed 'Wacken Open Air' in Germany during August.
