Gothenburg's CIPHER SYSTEM was previously known from a 1995 formation as ETERNAL GRIEF, issuing the demos 'Path Of Delight' in 1998 under this formative name. Toward the close of 1999 the group cut the follow up demo 'Raped By Chaos', these sessions being mixed by Anders Fridén of IN FLAMES, after which singer Daniel Schöldström decamped. 'Awakening Of Shadows' followed in 2000 before ETERNAL GRIEF evolved into CIPHER SYSTEM. The band maintained a low profile throughout 2002 but by the end of the year persuaded Schöldström to return for the 'Demo 2003', recorded at Studio Fullmoon.

Signing to the Lifeforce label CIPHER SYSTEM cut a split album with BY NIGHT. Their debut full-length 'Central Tunnel 8' album, released in October 2004, was crafted with producer Patrik J Sten at Studio Fredman.

In March 2007 it was revealed that Henric Carlsson had teamed up with tattooed Swedish platinum selling solo artist Sara Löfgren, SUNDOWN, BESEECH, CEMETARY 1213 and FATAL EMBRACE credited guitarist Manne Engström, BESEECH guitarist Robert Vintervind with Christian Silver of SUNDOWN and CEMETARY on drums. This union titled itself TWDSO ("THOSE WE DON'T SPEAK OF").
