Biography
Bordering on the edge of Hard Rock, the Borlänge based SATOR was nonetheless voted best Swedish Rock band of 1992. Formed in 1981 and originally titled SATOR CODEX, releasing a self financed single the same year titled 'Howling' and an album on Radium Records in 1986 entitled 'Wanna Start A Fire', the group became SATOR in 1987 and continued to release product well into the 90s.
SATOR created controversy with a July 1987 single, a tongue in cheek cover of Pop act LILI & SUSSI's hit 'Oh Mama'. Not originally intended for public consumption, Radium nevertheless insisted upon a release. The single cover featured a naked female torso from an 1866 Gustave Courbet painting and was duly banned by many record stores. Subsequent versions sported just the band logo and song name on the outside with the offensive image hidden inside. SATOR's March 1988 album 'Slammer!', was issued in three different covers, variants on a boxer picture in Sweden and Germany whilst French label Closer clad the album in a black and red face design.
The group signed off from Radium Records in December 1990 with a single release of the GARY GLITTER cover version 'Hello Hello! It's Good To Be Back'.
