SHIFTLIGHT is a Borås Doom Death Metal band. The trio, created in 1997, comprised vocalist / bassist Mattias Lindström, of EMBRACED, guitarist Andreas Wiik, of BESEECH, and drummer Nicklas Svensson, of BESEECH and BEYOND DREAMS. The group was formulated by Wiik and Svensson and initially incorporated SOVEREIGN guitarist Fredrik Nevander. Inducting Mattias Lindström as frontman, the quartet at first went by the title THE GREY before shortly afterwards evolving into OPTIMIST. This act cut demo tracks in 1999 at studio Brosk,.

Demo recordings included 'Life Is A Dream' in 2000, during which sessions the SHIFTLIGHT title was adopted, 'AM 25.807' recorded at studio Centralen in 2002 and 'Shiftlight' in February 2003. At this juncture Fredrik Nevander exited. SHIFTLIGHT persevered and the demo 'Passing' was delivered in November 2003. New tracks were recorded in September 2006.

SHIFTLIGHT recorded material with producer Tobias Head in late 2008.
