EVOCATION, a Borås based Death Metal act, issued the 1992 demo 'The Ancient Gate'. The group had been created a year prior by guitarist Marko 'Wackers' Palmen, bassist Thomas Josefsson and vocalist Jani Karvola and the two Kenttäkumpu brothers, drummer Janne and guitarist Vesa. However, Karvola exited within a few months. Thomas Josefsson filled the vocalist position and Christian Saarinen, of CEMETARY, was enrolled on bass for recording of the 'The Ancient Gate' sessions over February 22nd and 23rd, produced by Tomas Skogsberg in Sunlight Studio.

A second demo was recorded at G.M.P. Studios in September 1992 with engineer Kenneth Fahlman. Concerts followed, supporting artists such as LIERS IN WAIT, DISMEMBER, DARK TRANQUILLITY and CEREMONIAL OATH. Labels such as Osmose Productions, Roadrunner Records and Black Mark all courted the band but creative differences set in and despite their progress the band stalled in the autumn of 1993. Vesa Kenttäkumpu forged STONEFLOW. Saarinen rejoined CEMETARY, working alongside Josefsson, and later joined LAKE OF TEARS. Janne Kenttäkumpu featured with GRIPSHIFT and RENTOKILLER whilst Palmen hooked up with RAJOITUS.

The band members were contacted by Breath Of Night Records during 2001 and a reactivated version of EVOCATION re-issued their archive demos as a a full album release in November 2004. A brand new album, 'Tales From The Tomb', was recorded during 2006 with new bassist Martin Toresson.

A three track demo followed, securing a label deal with Germany's Cyclone Empire Records. 'Tales From The Tomb' then saw release in April 2007.

The October 2008 album 'Dead Calm Chaos', issued via Cyclone Empire, featured studio guests Anders Björler, from AT THE GATES and THE HAUNTED, on 'Razored To The Bone' and 'Angel Of Torment', and Dan Swanö, of BLOODBATH and EDGE OF SANITY, on 'Antidote'. The album was recorded by the band in their own studio in Borås, Sweden under the supervision of guitar player Vesa Kenttäkumpu.
