Biography

ALGAION, emanating from Åtvidaberg, is essentially a two man Black Metal project started by ex-ABEMAL members Mathis Kamijo (a.k.a. 'Nazgul') and Mårten Björkman (a.k.a. 'Grimulv') in 1993. First product was a two track demo which led to the inclusion of the track 'Kratos' on a 1994 Fullmoon compilation CD and a sophomore demo 'Heosphoros Ho Proi Anatellon'.

The band's debut album 'Oimai Algeiou', issued by Full Moon Productions during 1995, was recorded at Peter Tägtgren of HYPOCRISY and THE ABYSS' studios with Fredrik Söderlund of OCTINIMOS programming keyboards and drums and Nattfurhst of SORHIN on backing vocals.

ALGAION's second record, 'General Enmity' released in 1997, featured Tägtgren in place of Söderlund on drums. Kamijo joined Tägtgren's project band THE ABYSS in 1996 and also toured America as part of HYPOCRISY. Kamijo also operated VERGELMER working under a pseudonym for the 1997 album 'Light The Black Flame'.

Loud n Proud Records announced the issue of the ALGAION EP 'The Herostratic Legacy' but the company went into receivership that same year. Miriquidi Productions published the band's 1993 demo tracks as a limited edition 7" vinyl EP, restricted to 525 copies, entitled 'On the Reach Of Zaphonia' in 2002.

Kamijo later worked with N.C.O. and WELTMACHT, sessioned for PAIN and joined MORIFADE in March 2006.

Having signed with Singapore based label Pulverised Records in 2008, a resurrected ALGAION cut fresh album tracks at Helltower Studios in Linköping throughout early 2009. The new unit involved Mårten Björkman and Mathias Kamijo complemented by session players Robert Eng, of SATANIC SLAUGHTER and CORPORATION 187, on drums, also acting as album producer, guitarist Viktor Klint with Tobias Leffler on bass. In April MORIFADE's Robin Arnell contributed guest guitar solos to the album.
