Biography

A Melodic Rock band that caused something of a stir towards the end of the 80s - especially when the band opted to perform in Britain - Madrid's NIAGARA were fronted by Tony Cuevas, previously with FURIA ANIMAL, and initially went under the title of TORA TORA. The group had been formulated in 1985 by erstwhile BELLA BESTIA guitarist Manalo Arias with the trio of bassist Angel Arias, keyboard player Ricky Castañeda

And drummer Joey Martos all formerly with TRITON. Arias had also been involved in an earlier act GOLIATH.

Often championed by 'Kerrang!' magazine journalist Derek Oliver, NIAGARA peaked with 1988's 'Now Or Never' album - which was produced by ex-BARON ROJO guitarist Carlos De Castro. NIAGARA even toured the UK clubs package billed with THE GRIP and MARSHALL LAW during 1989. Martos decamped after recording the 1990 'Backstage Girls' record and HAMLET's Pablo Gianni took the drum position. Cuevas left before recording the third album and Nik Schultz became NIAGARA's new frontman. However, Fernando Garcias, later of VICTORY, also had a term at the mike stand. Subsequently ex-BANZAI and ZERO man Jose Antonio Manzano assumed lead vocal responsibilities for the band's third album.

Angel Arias later joined BARON ROJO. Another latter day NIAGARA singer, Ignacio Prieto, turned up fronting EDEN LOST.
