Cantabria Black Metal, incorporating erstwhile members of MORDOR and FINIS AFRICAE, formed up in 1998 as a unit comprising vocalist Oscar Moreno, guitarists Fernando Garcia and Alfonso, bass player Roberto and Sergio San Miguel on drums. With this line up FATAL PORTRAIT cut the 'Rapture Among The Idols' for the Swedish label Arte de Occulta Productions, restricted to the traditional pressing of 666 copies. The band would sign to another Swedish label, Downfall Records, for the album 'An Elusive Instinct...Of Lascivia'.

Following the album release both Roberto and Alfonso left the band for career reasons. FATAL PORTRAIT drafted erstwhile ENDEMIC man Eduardo Martinez on bass and T. Juan Pablo Agudelo of CALVARIA joined as their new guitarist in February of 2002.

That same year FATAL PORTRAIT bassist 'Thorgen' formed up Death Metal band OPROM ("Orbital Processor Request From Outer Materia"), a project comprising vocalist Erun-Dagoth (a.k.a. Javier Sixto) of BRIARGH, DAEMONLORD, MOONSHINE, FORESTDOME, BAGRONK, WOLFTHRONE, FLOWING CRIMSON and CRYSTALMOORS, guitarist H-Astur of GATHERING DARKNESS and drummer JhesuQ of GATHERING DARKNESS.
