Moscow based melodic Black Metal act CRYSTAL ABYSS, forged in May of 1998 at the hands of guitarists Timophey and Sarquanaar, has previously operated under the titles of WINGS OF THE CRYSTAL ABYSS and MORE SORROWFUL THAN NIGHT. Original singer Eugenia departed in February 1999 due to illness, a year of turbulence for the band as they would also lose these services of drummer Ilya and bassist Alexandr. The latter's position would be taken by Asterius but he would not last the course. Drums would be delegated to EMBRACE OF NIGHT member Gniffuts in April of 2000.

Longstanding guitarist Timophey bowed out that same year, to be superseded briefly by Alex of ASHEN LIGHT. By September Valafar had filled the guitar vacancy. Following sessions for the EP 'Sageness Fallen' CRYSTAL ABYSS underwent another line up change as Tribolosus usurped Asterius for the bass position. The 2002 line up of CRYSTAL ABYSS credited themselves as vocalist Lamia "Crystal waves song, tears of dark stats", guitarists Sarqunaar "Whisper of madness, burning of sunrise" and Valafar "Drops of infernal rains", bass player Tribolosus "Cauldrons of boiling blood" and drummer Gniffuts "Abyss heartbeat".

Guitarist Valafar and drummer Gniffuts are also both active members of RADIGOST.
