Initially known as DISGORGED upon their formation in 1992, recording the introductory demo tape 'As Illusive As A Dream' in late 1994, tragedy struck the band the following year when their bass player commited suicide. By 1995 the group comprised guitarist Miguel Cardoso, bassist Rui with Zé on drums, shortly afterward being joined by singer Nelo and guitarist Ricardo Dias. A further demo, entitled 'Emotional Wound', surfaced in June 1995. The band signed to Germany's Massacre Records after a name change to HEAVENWOOD and a musical shift away from the Death Metal of DISGORGED. Changes in the ranks saw Cardoso superseded by Mário Rui Lemos to record 'Diva' album, produced by Gerhard Magin in the Commusication Studions, Germany. Japanese versions added an extra exclusive track 'Frozen Image'. The band was soon on the road in Europe promoting the record touring saw shows with ATROCITY and IN FLAMES.

In their homeland, HEAVENWOOD opened for the likes of CRADLE OF FILTH, MOONSPELL and GENOCIDE. The 1998 album 'Swallow' sees THEATRE OF TRAGEDY's Liv Kristine and GAMMA RAY's Kai Hansen guest. Guitarist Ricardo Dias exited in March 2005. He would found an all new act in union with former HEAVENWOOD bass player Fitti and SECRECY drummer Luiz Ferreira. However, in 2007 Luiz Ferreira joined HEAVENWOOD.
