Biography

A Metal band from Poznan, TURBO was created in 1980 and recorded at a prolific rate until catching the eye of German label Noise. The 1982 album was recorded by a line-up comprising vocalist Grzegorz Kupczyk, guitarists Wojciech Hoffmann and Andrzej Lysów, bass player Piotr Przybylski and drummer Wojciech Aniota. TURBO installed a new rhythm section of bassist Bogusz Rutkiewicz and Alan Sors on drums for 1985's 'Smak Ciszy' opus, this line up remaining stable for the 'Kawaleria Szatana' effort of 1986. The Berlin based label released TURBO's Harris Johns produced 'Last Warrior' album in 1987. 1988's 'Epidemic', now with Tomasz Goehs, previously with WOLF SPIDER, on drums, found TURBO on Axemaster Records.

Robert "Litza" Friedrich of ACID DRINKERS was acquired on guitar as Rutkiewicz left the ranks, seeing Lysów then switch to bass. However, Andrzej Lysów also departed following the 1987 'Last Warrior' album. This record saw two released versions, the Polish language 'Ostatni Wojownik' and English 'Last Warriors', the latter seeing Maria "Marihuana Amadea" Wietrzykowska on guest vocals for the title song. Litza would then replace Grzegorz Kupczyk as lead vocalist upon completion of the 'Epidemic' release, as bassist Bogusz Rutkiewicz had also left the ranks Lemmy Demolator was drafted in to replace him.

The group switched to Music For Nations' Under One Flag imprint for 1990's 'Dead End'. At this juncture TURBO underwent a major overhaul as Wojciech Hoffmann ejected his former comrades. The ousted Litza, Lemmy Demolator and Tomasz Goehs duly forged CREATION OF DEATH.

Ex-TURBO men guitarist Wojciech Hoffmann and bassist Henryk Tomczak created NON IRON in 1989 for their debut album 'Innym Niepotrzebni'. NON IRON replaced their singer Leszek Szpigiel with another ex-TURBO member vocalist Grzegorz Kupczyk.

Grzegorz Kupczyk and Maria Wietrzykowska founded the Heavy Metal outfit CETI for the 'Czarna Róza' album in 1990, this unit, later inducting Lysów, going on to release a string of high profile albums over the years. TURBO returned in 2001 with the album 'Awatar', recorded in both English and Polish versions. 'Tozsamosc' followed in 2004. TURBO celebrated their 25th anniversary with an appearance at the CRADLE OF FILTH headlined Katowice 'MetalMania' festival in March of 2005.
