Biography

TSA ("Tajne Stowarzyszenie Abstynentów") is a powerful Opole based Heavy Metal band founded in 1979 by guitarist Andrzej Nowak and bass player Tomasz Zatwarnickiego. This formative line-up then shifted shape with the addition of guitarist Rysiek Petelnik, drummer Marek Kaplon and new bassist Janusza Niekrasza. TSA's debut product, a February 1982 7" single 'Mass Media', was recorded in Kraków for the Tonpress label in 1981. At this juncture TSA comprised singer Marek Piekarczyk, guitarists Andrzej Nowak and Stefan Machel, bassist Janusz Niekrasz with Marek Kaplon on drums. A follow up single, 'Zwierzenia Kontestatora', arrived in June.

TSA's first full-length opus, 'Live', saw issue in February 1983. The Polton label issued the first studio set, simply called 'TSA', in March 1983. A follow up, billed 'Spunk!' and featuring a cover of BLACK SABBATH's 'Black Sabbath', was recorded in Warsaw. In December a cassette was released by Jako Records entitled 'Live Rockowisko', recorded in concert in Lódz.

'Heavy Metal World' surfaced in June 1984, with a western European license granted to Belgium's Mausoleum label for release in 1985. However, the band underwent line-up changes. Tonpress issued 'Rock 'n' Roll' in April 1988, recorded by singer Marek Piekarczyk, guitarists Stefan Machel and Antoni Degutis, bassist Janusz Niekrasz with Zbyszek Kraszewski on drums. By the September 1992 album '52 Dla Przyjaciol', released by Zic Zac, only two members of the original band remained. Nowak had returned on guitar but new faces included guitarist Pawel Stompor, bass player Andrzej Walczak and Dariusz Bilyk.

For the November 1998 'Live'98' album TSA comprised vocalist Marek Piekarczyk, guitarists Andrzej Nowak and Antoni Degutis, bass player Paweł Mąciwoda along with drummer Duane Cleveland.

Metal Mind Productions issued the 'Proceder' album in April 2004. TSA's archive live set, '1981' released by Metal Mind Productions in October 2004, comprised tracks recorded at the Warsaw Rock Jamboree in October 1981 and the Lódz Rockowisko events in November 1981. In 2006 TSA issued a career retrospective 9 CD box set.
