Biography

ALGOL, hailing from Varteig and having released a 1990 demo 'Urcemurcel Turkus' in their former guise of BUTTOCKS, first emerged with the 1992 demo cassette 'The Priests Are Laughing'. The group had actually been initiated as a Punk act under the brand SÉANCE in February 1989, using this title for a few months before changing singers and switching to BUTTOCKS, featuring vocalist / guitarist Thomas Andresen, bass player Glenn Spitz and drummer Pat Solli (a.k.a. PÃ¥l Solli). The band also featured the WITCHHAMMER and DECAY LUST credited guitarist Frank Wilhelmsen, to record the 'Urcemurcel Turkus' songs in December 1989. A second demo followed in March 1991. Wilhemsen was replaced by Kjell-Ivar Andersen as the transition was made to ALGOL in September 1991.

Capitalising on 'The Priests Are Laughing', recorded at Kællen Studio, the five track 'Witchsleep' promotional tape, recorded on an 8 track at McQuake's Studio, arrived in 1993. Live work included concerts in Poland, arranged by 'Crionic' fanzine. Signing to Effigy Records the band put out the 1996 album 'Entering the Woods Of Enchantment'. Recorded at X-Ray Studios in Sarpsborg, these sessions were co-produced by the band and Pål Johansson, who also provided keyboard textures. Notably, Andresen's mother painted the album cover. However, following release Thomas Andresen relocated, taking the ALGOL brand name with him. Ultimately, ALGOL dissolved. Frontman Thomas Andresen resurfaced in 2004 in SINCERA, a Metal band forged by Bjørn Andre Mathisen of FESTER.
