Biography

Trondheim's MOTORPSYCHO was founded in October 1989, initially comprising a trio of vocalist / bass player Bent Sæther, guitarist 'Snah' (a.k.a. Hans Magnus Ryan) and "killer" Kjell Runar Jenssen on drums. The band title was taken from viewing a triple bill of Russ Meyer movies in London. With MUDHONEY and FASTER PUSSYCAT already taken, the newly formed act duly adopted the remaining title - MOTORPSYCHO. The Knallsyndikatet imprint put out the group's first product, a 1990 cassette 'Maiden Voyage' limited to 100 copies.

Voices Of Wonder released debut album 'Lobotomizer', recorded at The Warehouse in Oslo with engineers Svein Solberg and Trude Midtgård, in 1991, after which Håkon Gebhardt took over on drums. In May 1992 MOTORPSYCHO released the 'Soothe' vinyl mini-album, crafted at Brygga studios in Trondheim, this including a cover version of THE MAMAS & THE PAPAS sixties hit 'California Dreamin'. Follow up '8 Soothing Songs For Rut' was in fact these same songs with the addition of 'Have Fun' and 'Loaded'. Next album 'Demon Box' arrived in 1993.

MOTORPSYCHO's next release was a far from ordinary album. The band re-recorded tracks in Country & Western for use on the movie soundtrack to Italian cowboy film 'The Tussler'. Only 977 albums were produced in 1994 for Norway on the dBut label whilst Indigo Records produced 980 copies for the German market. That same year MOTORPSYCHO recorded a slew of tracks for the double album 'Timothy's Monster', issued via German label Stickman. Anneli Drecker guested on the song 'The Golden Core'.

Reprising 1994's 'The Tussler', the band cut further Country & Western tracks for 2004 issue as 'The International Tussler Society'. MOTORPSYCHO drummer Håkon Gebhardt exited in 2005 in order to prioritise his HDH project. Working with producer Pieter Kloos MOTORPSYCHO utilised Void studios in Eindhoven, Holland to cut the 2006 album 'Black Hole / Black Canvas'. During these sessions the band employed a new drummer, the ALABAMA KIDS, LOOSE, 7 ZUMA 7, 35007 and SUIMASEN credited Jacco van Rooij.
