Biography
TRINE REIN made a sizable impression on the Norwegian charts with a series of classy AOR outings. Conflicting reports put her birth date and place at either 1967 in Nesodden, Norway or 1970 in San Francisco, California. Rein had apparently relocated back to Norway with her mother when still a baby and a healthy interest in music saw her starting her first band, SOUND OF SILENCE, when aged fifteen. By 1989 she was a member of SATURN and the following combo WORLD IN PEACE marked Rein's debut album release, the single 'Ghost Jam' scoring considerable success in Norway.
The singer went solo in 1992, signing to EMI Norsk that Spring to record the inaugural 'Finders Keepers' album with noted guitarist OLE EVENRUD acting as producer in November. Released in November 1993, 'Finders Keepers' gave Rein a no. 1 hit with the single 'Just Missed The Train' and EMI Norsk their top selling artist of the year. Awarded with a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemanspris) as 'Best Newcomer' Rein's sales were so strong that 'Finders Keepers' would still be topping the charts in the Spring of 1994, going on to sell over 180,000 copies. In July the album was released by Toshiba-EMI in Japan. Sales proved explosive, over 400,000 units, and later that same year Rein undertook a Japanese tour.
1995 found Rein working with Poul Bruun as executive producer for the follow up 'Under My Skin'. Issued in 1996 the record debuted at no. 1 on the charts, staying there for three weeks. Set up for international exposure by EMI Rein was cruelly robbed of success by Australian Pop artist NATHALIE IMBRUGLIA. Rein had covered EDNASWAP's 'Torn', releasing it as her next single. 'Torn' charted in both Norway and Japan. However, the 'Neighbours' soap star released her version of 'Torn' shortly after and achieved massive success with it in the UK. By coincidence Danish singer LIS SORENSON also scored a hit with the same track in her homeland too. Although critics were unanimous in praising Rein's version of the song Imbruglia's marketing campaign swamped it. Rein got her own back when the British tabloid 'The Sun' held a phone vote to see if readers could tell the two versions apart.
