Biography

Although rich in Black Metal heritage WINDS deliver classically inspired Progressive Metal. Drummer Jan Axel von Blomberg of WINDS is better known as the notorious Hellhammer, citing a wealth of experience with such acts as MAYHEM, EMPEROR, THE KOVENANT, ARCTURUS, MEZZERSCHMIT, IMMORTAL, TROLL, THORNS, ULVER, FLEURETY, SHINING and ARCTURUS. Guitarist CARL AUGUST TIDEMANN has a tradition with Progressive Metal band TRITONUS, ARCTURUS and FLEURETY. He has also issued a 1996 solo album. Vocals and bass would be in the employ of Lars Eric Si (a.k.a. Lars Eikind) of TULUS and KHOLD whilst secondary guitars came courtesy of Kobbergaard (Helge K. Haugen) of BY PALE LIGHT.

Avantgarde released the 'Of Entity And Mind' opus in June 2001, this set featuring a guesting Drajevolitch on vocals. The 'Reflections Of The I' album followed in August 2002. Drajevolitch featured in the studio again as did violinist Vegard Johnsen, viola player Stig Ove Ore and cellist Hans Josef Groh from the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. During 2003 the WINDS team of Hellhammer, guitarist Kobbergaard, bassist Eikind and keyboard player Andy Winter forged an adventurous adjunct band unit entitled AGE OF SILENCE in league with BORKNAGAR, CARPATHIAN FOREST and SOLEFALD man Lazare (a.k.a. Lars Are Nedland).

WINDS readied a new album, recorded at Toproom and Fagerborg studios in Norway and mixed at The Factory in Vancouver, for April of 2004 on The End Records entitled 'The Imaginary Direction Of Time'. Strings were again suplied by Vegard Johnsen, Stig Ove Ore and Hans Josef Groh plus Dorthe Dreier on viola.

New album recordings in early 2006 saw the inclusion of guest artists Agnete M. Kirkevaag of MADDER MORTEM and FRANTIC BLEEP, Lars Are Nedland, Dan Swanö of EDGE OF SANITY plus Øystein Moe of ULVER and TRITONUS. 'Prominence And Demise' was released in September 2007.
