Biography

Seventies Oslo Stoner Rock act BLACK DEBBATH ('Black Debate') confounded many international critics with their 1999 album 'Tung, Tung Politisk Rock', as the name implies a politically based record which was sung entirely in Norwegian. The band, which comprises members of GARTNERLOSJEN, LYD, AASEN, LOOPHOLE, THULSA DOOM, THE CUMSHOTS and CURTAINS OF WOOL, is fronted by Emil Hegerberg, an industrious figure holding down membership of no less than eight different bands. BLACK DEBBATH opted for English lyrics on the follow up 'Welcome To Norway'.

BLACK DEBBATH mentor 'Papa Doom' also operates Doom act THULSA DOOM. Better known as Ole-Petter Andreasson, he is renowned for his behind the desk contributions at his Caliban studios to acts such as GLUCIFER, HELLRIDE, his own 'Bonerrock' side project THE CUMSHOTS and THE WONDERFOOLS amongst many others.

None too surprisingly the group contributed a cover version of BLACK SABBATH's 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath', albeit retitled 'Debbath Bloody Debbath', to a Duplex Records compilation. The album 'Den Femte Statsmakt' emerged in 2004, reaching no. 25 on the charts.

BLACK DEBBATH returned in June 2006 with the single 'Motörhedda Gabler', hitting no. 16 in the Norwegian charts. The Henrik Ibsen themed concept album 'Naar Vi Døde Rocker' followed.

The 'Hyller Kvinnen' album was released in October 2007.
