Kristiansand Death Metal band founded in late 2003 by singer A. Frigstad and guitarist J. Haaland. In May 2004 IN VAIN utilised Ansgar Studio in Kristiansand to cut tracks for the EP 'Will The Sun Ever Rise'. The group added bassist J. Sehl in mid 2005 to record a second EP entitled 'Wounds'. IN VAIN subsequently recruited guitarist Magnus Olav Tveiten, in November, then drummer Stig Reinhardtsen, in December.

Ole Vistnes replaced J. Sehl in May 2006. In November IN VAIN announced new members bassist Kristian Wikstøl and guitarist Even Fuglestad. A debut album, 'The Latter Rain', was recorded for 2007 release.

VREID, BATTERED and IN VAIN teamed up for the "Northern Brigade" tour beginning in Belgium during late March 2007.
