Biography

Originally conceived as a Black Metal billed as GREEN CARNATION. This Kristiansand act would re-invent itself as IN THE WOODS... when pivotal figure Tchort (a.k.a. Terje Vik Schei) decamped to become bassist for the renowned EMPEROR. As IN THE WOODS... the band took on a completely new experimental direction.

IN THE WOODS... announced their formation in 1992 and the group's first commercially available demo, 'Isle Of Men', released the following year gained a deal with highly respected British label Misanthropy Records. The band also re-released the band's demo in CD format. The band's debut single was a version of the 60's JEFFERSON AIRPLANE druggie classic 'White Rabbit'. Their first full-length offering, 'Heart Of The Ages' recorded at Star Studio in Iceren, emerged in 1995.

The Autumn of 1996 saw IN THE WOODS... on the road in Europe with support from KATATONIA and VOICE OF DESTRUCTION.

Vocalist Jan Ovl 'Overlord' Svithjod and guitarist Christer guested on the 1999 DRAWN album 'A New World'.

Drummer Anders Kobro from IN THE WOODS... would also moonlight with CARPATHIAN FOREST and featured as part of Thrash act SCARIOT for their 2000 album 'Deathforlorn'. IN THE WOODS... twins guitarist Christer C.H. Botteri and bassist X. Botteri also feature on the GREEN CARNATION reformation album 'Journey To The End Of Night'.

The band called it quits in 2000, bowing out with a farewell gig in their hometown Kristiansand on December 29th. A posthumous live recording taken from the event, 'Live At the Caledonian Hall' , emerged in mid 2003 on the Prophecy Productions. In the wake of the band's demise various members founded the Karmakosmetix label to pursue a diverse range of solo ventures such as NAERVAER, STILLE OPPROR, X-BOTTERI, PLUTO and TRANSIT.
