THUNDRA is a Haugesund Viking Metal endeavour of EINHERJER bassist Stein Roger Sund and ex-ENSLAVED and ZENO MORF drummer Harald 'Revheim' Helgesson, these two acting as founder members alongside FATAL DREAM keyboard player Nils Harald Revheim Johansson in 1998. Second guitarist Rune Frederiksen has a prior tradition with NUMBED. The band employed two vocalists with Steven Grindhaug handling 'clean' vocals and ex-OBSCURATION guitarist Thor Erik Helgesen delivering 'scream' vocals. Signing to the Finnish Spinefarm label, THUNDRA issued the 2001 debut album 'Blood Of Your Soul'. The band issued a three song demo in 2003.

Stein Sund would also be active with EVIG NATT and DWELLING SOULS. Thor Erik Helgesen was operational with MYRKRAVERK, DWELLING SOULS, JUDAS VITNER, ZENO MORF and DEEP FUNERAL. Maintaining ties to THUNDRA, Rune Fredriksen joined PICTURES OF PAIN in the Autumn of 2004.

The band signed a deal with Karmageddon Media subsidiary New Aeon Media in September of 2004, recording at Black Dimension Studios for an early 2005 release. THUNDRA switched labels to sign a deal with Greece's Black Lotus Records for the release of a sophomore album, 'Worshipped By Chaos', issued in February 2006. The album was recorded at Black Dimension Studio with Stein Sund acting as producer. Sund would also find time to produce demos for PICTURES OF PAIN at the same complex.

Despite a protracted period of inactivity, THUNDRA announced in November 2007 that the band was still a going concern. A series of June 2008 concerts in Europe was conducted flanking THRONE OF KATARSIS. Thor Erik Helgesen exited in October. Despite this setback THUNDRA commenced fresh album recordings the following month.

THUNDRA contracted a recording deal with Germany's Einheit Productions in January 2009 for the album 'Ignored By Fear'. At this same juncture guitarist Thor Erik Helgesen left THUNDRA once again to focus on other projects.
