Biography

Self 'Black Pagan' outfit KAMPFAR, hailing from Fredrikstad and self-described as delivering "music inspired by Nordic natural beauty, folklore and myths. It is dark, cold, menancing, and yet alluring in a unique way", was borne out of a previous band MOCK.

With the dissolvement of MOCK guitarist Dolk created KAMPFAR, releasing a demo in late 1994. The two tracks on the inaugural 1995 demo, which was restricted to 250 copies, were remastered and a new recording added to create the EP, which was released by French label Season of Mist. The Malicious label would put out the 'Mellom Skogkledde Aaser' album during 1996. Signing to Hammerheart Records KAMPFAR released 1997's 'Norse' and 'Fra Underverdenen' in 1999. Bassist Jon Fredrik Bakker holds credits with BALVAZ, CARPATHIAN FULL MOON, CREMATOR, GRUESOME, NECRO-SENTIENT MORTIS FEED and PENDULUM.

A third KAMPFAR album, 'Kvass', emerged through the Austrian Napalm label in 2006. European dates in April had the band partnered with BERSERK and NYDVIND. The group also performed at Germany's 'Wacken Open Air' festival in August 2007.

The 'Heimgang' album was released by Napalm Records on 26th September 2008. In October KAMPFAR united with fellow Norwegian act ELITE for the 'Tordenstorm' European tour.

The band was set to play the SAXON, UFO, MOTÖRHEAD and HEAVEN AND HELL headlined August 2009 'Wacken Open Air' festival in Germany but withdrew citing "a family matter".
