DEAD TROOPER was founded during 1998 by the former SFW and DAMAGE duo of guitarists Morten Müller and Birger Larsen. Müller also had a brief association with CADAVARIZED. Frontman Andreas Paulsen is active with LEFT AMONG THE LIVING. Drummer Are Sorknes has a tradition with GUTHRUM, GRIEF EMPORIUM, OPPOSITE OF SERENITY and MØRKEMANNMENNENE.

DEAD TROOPER released the 2002 'Axewielders' demo. The '100 % Norwegian Thrash Metal' tape, combined with a DVD, arrived in 2004. Parting ways with Paulsen, an EP, 'Spiritual Funeral', was delivered in July 2005. Nico Benz filled in as session bassist Meantime, DEAD TROOPER members Are Sorknes and Birger Larsen worked up the JUJ project alongside SUSPERIA vocalist Athera. DEAD TROOPER would be rejoined by Andreas Paulsen in May.

The band aligned themselves with the 'Venting the Anger' Scandinavian tour of December 2005 featuring SUSPERIA, DEMOLITION and MIKSHA. DEAD TROOPER parted ways with drummer Are Sorknes in January 2006. Paulsen joined Torbjørn Sandvik's GLITTERTIND project in February. BLACK COMEDY drummer Marius Strand was enrolled in July.
