Biography

Somewhat of a Black Metal supergroup, the Bergen outfit heralded with a 1994 demo 'From The Storms Of Shadows'. Commercially the group debuted for Mordgrimm Records with the February 1997 offering 'In Times Before The Light'. Recording line-up for this offering, recorded at at X-Ray Studios with co-producer Sire Johannesen, comprised simply N. Blackheart, on vocals, keyboards and drums, with TROLL's T. Blackheart (Thanatos) on guitar, bass and keyboards. 'N. Blackheart' was in fact Nagash (Stian Arnesen) of DIMMU BORGIR.

The February 1998 album, 'Nexus Polaris' produced by Xy of SAMAEL, boasts main protagonist Amund abetted by CRADLE OF FILTH and THERION female vocalist Sarah Jezebel Diva, DIMMU BORGIR members Nagash and guitarist Astennu, MAYHEM's drummer Hellhammer (a.k.a. Jan Axel Blomberg) and Sverd of ARCTURUS. Besides his main employ with MAYHEM, Hellhammer's impact upon the Scandinavian Metal scene stretches across such diverse acts as ANTESTOR, AGE OF SILENCE, ARCTURUS, CARNIVORA, IMMORTAL, MORTEM, SHINING, VIDSYN, TROLL, THORNS, DIMMU BORGIR, MEZZERSCHMITT and WINDS. 'Nexus Polaris' fared well for the band, charting at number 65 in Germany.

By the 2000 album the band had altered dramatically with Sverd and Astennu departing. The band name now became a trio titled THE KOVENANT (in an effort to quell the confusion over so many act's titled COVENANT and in particular Swedish Industrial band COVENANT who made legal claim to the title). Whilst the band was changing its name the band members duly followed. Nagash retitled himself Lex Icon, Hellhammer became Von Blomberg and Blackheart was now known as Psy Coma.

Psy Coma and Von Blomberg guested on Nagash's project TROLL album of 2000 'The Last Predators'.
