A late eighties primitive Death Metal act known for its fostering of key players in the IMMORTAL saga, vocalist / bassist Abbath Doom Occulta (Olve Eikemo), guitarist Demonaz Doom Occulta (a.k.a. Harald Nævdal) and drummer Armagedda. Guitarist Jørn Inge Tunsberg, of OLD FUNERAL and HADES ALMIGHTY repute, would also figure in the IMMORTAL family tree and would gain notoriety for his conviction on church arson charges.

Abbath and Armagedda were both previously in SATAENEL, an outfit that also featured BURZUM's notorious Count Grisnackh. This triumvirate also operated the Death Metal unit OLD FUNERAL alongside Tyr and Alligator. SATAENAL and OLD FUNERAL ran parallel courses until Demonaz broke away to forge AMPUTATION during 1988 with drummer Armagedda and Tunsberg. The latter exited in the Autumn of 1990 to create HADES (NORWAY) and AMPUTATION duly evolved into IMMORTAL. Besides his main employ fronting IMMORTAL Abbath has also gained credits as session drummer for both GORGOROTH and DET HEDENSKE FOLK. Demonaz has been involved with solo ventures DEMONAZ and PERFECT VISIONS.

AMPUTATION issued two demos, 'Achieve The Amputation' in 1989, also featuring guitarist Truls and bassist Jan-Atle, and July 1990's 'Slaughtered In The Arms Of God'. Both would be heavily bootlegged in later years.
