Biography

Hamilton, Waikato Death Metal act previously known as BLOODWREATH. The band was forged during 2000 comprising HATE THEORUM's Michael Hoggard and Jamie Saint Merat on guitars and drums respectively and Bart Fine on bass. Saint Merat also cites credits with MISLED BY LIES. Hoggard and Saint Merat are both also active in MISADVENTURES IN SELF SURGERY. The drummer also operates with ROCK.PAPER.MEATCLEAVER. Subsequently Mark 'Worzel' Seeney took on the role of frontman and Fine was usurped by Phil Smathers, also known as vocalist for MISLED BY LIES.

BLOODWREATH was embroiled in some major line up shifts during mid 2002 triggered by the departure of vocalist Mark Seeney, who left to concentrate on his role as a drummer in RED SHIFT, and dismissal of bass player Phil Smathers. BLOODWREATH duly inducted James Wallace of AS HEAVEN BLEEDS repute into the vocal role as well as pulling in Jared Commerer, a veteran of EYESORE, BLUT and ALTECH, on second guitar. Demos were recorded in September that year.

During 2003 BLOODWREATH evolved into ULCERATE, their first task under their new title acting as support to DAWN OF AZAZEL's January 2003 'Law Of The Strong' tour. An eponymnous 2003 demo would be followed by a 2004 session 'The Coming Of Genocide'.

ULCERATE guitarist Michael Hoggard found himself reaping national exposure in 2005 in a most unexpected, and very un-Metal, fashion. He would be featured on the New Zealand television ballroom dancing game show 'Dancing With The Stars' partnering famous sex-change government minister and erstwhile sex industry worker Georgina Beyer.

ULCERATE signed with Neurotic Records in April 2006. That October, promoting the album 'Of Fracture And Failure', the band supported CANNIBAL CORPSE in Auckland and Wellington.

The album 'Everything Is Fire' was scheduled for release in March 2009 via Willowtip Records. The sessions were mastered by Peter In de Betou in Sweden.
