Biography

ELFONÍA, featuring the HYDRA players vocalist / violinist Marcela Bovio, keyboard player Alejandro Millán and guitarist Roberto Quintanilla, is a Monterrey based, atmospheric Doom outfit. The group debuted live as support act to ATARAXIA and HAGGARD in November 2002. ELFONÍA's profile rose sharply in Europe during late 2003 when Bovio was hand picked by Arjen Lucassen of AYREON to appear on the album 'Ayreon: The Human Equation'.

In May of 2005 AYREON mentor Arjen Lucassen unveiled his new band project STREAM OF PASSION, once again prominently featuring Marcela Bovio plus ELFONÍA's pianist Alejandro Millán. Completing the band would be Swedish female guitarist Lori Linstruth of WARBRIDE and Dutchmen drummer Davy Mickers and bass player Johan van Stratum from the Rock Academy in Tilburg.

Unusually, ELFONÍA staged the album release party for their 2005 opus 'This Sonic Landscape' at the Marco Contemporary Art Museum alongside exhibitions of photography and paintings by Arturo Leal and Alan Flores. Later that year Bovio contributed vocal parts to ÍON's 'Madre, Protegenos' album.

In December 2006 ELFONÍA announced they were "taking an indefinite break". Marcela Bovio featured as guest singer on THE GATHERING's 2009 album 'The West Pole'.
