ALICE IN DARKLAND is a Doom Metal band conceived by the LACUNA COIL keyboard player Alice Chiarelli and debuting in 1999 with the 'Bewitching The Mind' promotion recording. The 2000 demo 'Through Violet Perversion' would see VISION DIVINE and LABYRINTH man Mat Stancioiu on the drums. Lino Sistu, of ABNEGATE, NODE and SUNGIFT, then took the drum stool but would later leave for Power Metal act POWER SYMPHONY. Guitarist Andy would opt out to found STYGIAN in February of 2000, another ALICE IN DARKLAND guitarist Andrea Frederich would also join STYGIAN in October of the following year.

ALICE IN DARKLAND bowed in officially in March of 2002, issuing 'The Evil's Entrails' album Nocturnal Music. The band would employ a succession of drummers during this period including ex-OPHIDIAN man Gianluca, erstwhile NODE member Loris Pacaccio and ANCIENT's Grom (a.k.a. Diego Meraviglia). The band settled on a stable line up comprising new members second guitarist Andrew Frederich, ANCIENT and INFLICTION bass player Dhilorz from Ancient and drummer Alessandro 'Rullo' Durini of STYGIAN and EMPTYMIST. Durini joined SILENCE in 2004.
