Biography
In 1973 three members of a financially strapped THIN LIZZY, bassist Phil Lynott, guitarist Eric Bell and drummer Brian Downey, recorded the first known DEEP PURPLE tribute album 'Funky Junction Play A Tribute To Deep Purple' issued on the Stereo Gold Award label. Joining the THIN LIZZY triptych would be singer Benny White, from Dublin band ELMER FUDD, and BLODWYN PIG keyboard player Dave Lennox. The album comprised DEEP PURPLE tracks plus instrumental traditional songs and a version of 'House Of The Rising Sun'. Although the album cover depicted a band performing live the photograph was not FUNKY JUNCTION but in fact HARD STUFF.
FUNKY JUNCTION would also be credited as performing on an album by GLADYS KNIGHT AND THE PIPS entitled 'Especially For You'.
