Biography

Szombathely based SEAR BLISS, established during 1993, is a Gothic / Black Metal band. An early line-up featured EXTREME DEFORMITY bassist Csaba Tóth, although he had vacated his post in 1994, and ANIMOSITY drummer Norbert Keibinger. Guitarist János Barbarics would also be an ex-ANIMOSITY member. SEAR BLISS first arrived on the Metal scene with their 'Pagan Winter' demo tape of April 1995, co-produced by Bertalan Domby and recorded at LMS Studio. At this juncture SEAR BLISS comprised vocalist Zoltán Csejtei, guitarists János Barbarics and Csaba Csejtei, bass player András Nagy, keyboard player Winter, trumpet player Gergely Szücs with session drums being delegated to EXTREME DEFORMITY's Balázs Bertalan, Norbert Keibinger having exited just prior to recording. The public reaction to the demo led directly to a record contract with Two Moons Records. However, Winter took his leave in May and Szücs duly added keyboards to his duties. SEAR BLISS then undertook its inaugural live performance in Budapest during August 1995. in November, Winter returned to the fold.

Debut album 'Phantoms' arrived in late August 1996. Originally the record was intended simply to be entitled 'Phantom' but a record company mistake made the title plural. For these sessions, recorded again at LMS Studios with both Bertalan Domby and Ferenc Vida aiding with production, the group drafted new drummer Zoltán Csejtei. The leading Dutch Metal magazine Aardshock honoured 'Phantoms' as 'Album of the month', the very first time a Black Metal record had scored this accolade.

During early 1997 SEAR BLISS promoted 'Phantoms' with shows in Europe opening for MARDUK and TSATTHOGGA. With SEAR BLISS making serious strides Two Moons re-released the 'Pagan Winter' demo on CD adding bonus track, the newly recorded 'In The Shadow Of Another World' cut at Nautilus Studios in Sopron with engineer András Boda, to make up the 1997 release. Throughout February and March SEAR BLISS roved Europe on tour packaged with MARDUK and TSATTHOGGUA. However, subsequent touring highlighted divisions within the band unit and both Zoltán Csejtei and Csaba Csejtei decamped. Shortly afterwards, keyboard player Winter departed to give more concentration to his solo projects ARUD and FOREST SILENCE. SEAR BLISS also pulled in new members guitarist Viktor Max Scheer and drummer Zoltan Schönberger as Gergely Szücs once again assumed the keyboard mantle. In this formation Two Moons put out 'The Haunting' album in February 1998. Produced by Han Swagerman and Viktor Scheer, the album had been recorded at Beaufort studios in Holland the previous August.

Viktor Max Scheer was to leave the band in August 1999 and just weeks later both Gergely Szücs and János Barbarics also opted out. A two song demo, 'Souldive', emerged in 2000. At first András Nagy took over on guitar but then András Horváth enrolled as new six-stringer. Session keyboards were supplied by Attila Török, from AMON HEN, and later Péter Bokros. In April 2000 István Neubrandt was inducted as second guitarist in time for a European tour. With SEAR BLISS then on temporary hold, András Nagy guested for Olivér Ziskó's CAVUM project.

The band signed to US label Red Stream Records for April 2001's 'Grand Destiny'. Session keyboards were on supply from Tamás Kondor whilst brass enhancements were highlighted by trumpet player Róbert Pinter and trombonist Zoltán Pál. Engineered by Bertalan Domby, 'Grand Destiny' had been crafted at the band's home studio. Previous to the album release, András Horváth had been asked to leave and Krisztián Varga, from ART OF BUTCHERY, MONASTERY and AGE OF AGONY, was drafted to substitute for live work. At this same juncture András Nagy, Zoltán Csejtei and Winter were operational with the latter's side project FOREST SILENCE, laying down tracks for a three song demo. Meanwhile, SEAR BLISS would be presented with an unusual opportunity to score and perform music for a series of summer theatre performances of John Gay's 'The Beggar's Opera' at the Illyés Gyula Theater. During this same period Olivér Ziskó joined the band.

Csaba Csejtei rejoined in August 2001 and in November the band signed a direct deal with Red Stream Records, with an album, 'Forsaken Symphony', being recorded in April and May. Throughout the summer months SEAR BLISS once again participated in 'The Beggar's Opera' performances at Budapest's Theater Thália. 'Forsaken Symphony' arrived in October 2002.

SEAR BLISS would ensconce themselves in HSB Studios during November and December 2003 to craft the album 'Glory And Perdition'. This album featured a guest appearance by MAYHEM vocalist Attila Csihar on the songs 'Birth Of Eternity' and 'Shores Of Death'. 'Glory And Perdition' arrived through Red Stream in July 2004.

Csaba Csejtei was replaced by guitarist S.A.W. in February 2006. The group signed to Candlelight Records in September and SEAR BLISS' sixth album, 'The Arcane Odyssey', was released in September 2007.

SEAR BLISS celebrated its 15th anniversary with a show at Budapest's Avalon Club on 29th November 2008. In addition to the current members of the band, SEAR BLISS' 'Phantoms' era musicians took to the stage for the first time in 11 years.
