STAR ONE is a typically ambitious Sci Fi themed based concept from AYREON and AMBEON mastermind guitarist Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Prior to virtually singlehandedly revolutionizing the European concept album genre Lucassen had laid down guitar for Metal bands BODINE and VENGEANCE. The debut 'Space Metal' album would include the by now expected role call of special guests for that of Lucassen's projects.

Lead vocalists comprised AYREON mainstay Robert Soeterboek, SYMPHONY X's Russell Allen, THRESHOLD's Damien Wilson, EDGE OF SANITY's DAN SWANO and Floor Jansen of Doom merchants AFTER FOREVER. Highlighted solos came courtesy of ERIK NORLANDER, Jens Johansson of STRATOVARIUS and Gary Wehrkamp. Ed Warby handled drums.

A limited edition digi-pak variant of the album included a bonus CD hosting alternate takes, demos, a HAWKWIND medley and a take on DAVID BOWIE's 'Space Oddity'. Japanese variants added an exclusive extra track, a cover of LED ZEPPELIN's 'No Quarter' featuring LANA LANE. Lucasson would take the STAR ONE ensemble out on the road in September for a European tour. The live band comprised of Lucasson alongside vocalists Russell Allen, Damien Jansen, Robert Soeterboek and Floor Jansen, FINCH bassist Peter Vink, keyboard player Joost van den Broek of SUN CAGED and Ed Warby on drums. Dates on the 'Intergalactic Space Crusaders' European tour would be recorded for a double live album 'Live On Earth'.

In early 2005 Robert Soeterboek fronted the multi-national Hard Rock outfit THE COTTON SOETERBOEK BAND, comprising a veteran cast guitarist Alan Cotton, LIZZY BORDEN, TERRIF, BRANOM and HALFORD credited bassist Mike Davis, Joost van den Broek from AFTER FOREVER and SUN CAGED on Keyboards with SAHARA, ROB ROCK and DRIVER man Reynold 'Butch' Carlson on drums.
