Biography

BRUTUS, offering a distinctly askew version of Death Metal, was formulated in September 2000 by the TEXTURES and LOST SACRAMENT credited guitarist Bastærd and drummer Ploegbaas (a.k.a. Maarten Luysterburg) of THE MESS AGE and GODDESS OF DESIRE repute. The group would be completed frontman Schoft and RAZORBLADE PERVERSION bassist Molestrator. In keeping with the extreme ethos of the band Molestrator would be allegedly sacked when he committed the sin of bringing a girl along to rehearsals, the official line being "Women and relationships are not allowed to disturb the grim ambience of BRUTUS." He would be supplanted by Ploert (a.k.a. Robbert van Walsum) of PANDAEMONIUM and DAZE for recording of a six song demo.

A gig supporting DISGORGE prompted a contract from Unique Leader Records and BRUTUS issued their debut album 'Slachtbeest' in Europe in December of 2003. BRUTUS united with support MACABRE, POLTERCHRIST and CEPHALIC CARNAGE for European gigs throughout January and February of 2004 to promote the record. Guitarist Bastærd was ousted in April. European dates throughout September 2005 had the band hooked up with Malta's BEHEADED and US headliners MORTAL DECAY.

BRUTUS drummer Maarten Luysterburg committed suicide on October 24th 2006. He was just 25 years old.

Former BRUTUS drummer Robbert van Walsum joined MYTHLORIAN in June 2008.
