Biography

Extreme Thrash Metal act that attracted a sizable European cult following despite being dismissed by many critics, LIVING DEATH were formed by the Kelch brothers, guitarist Reiner and bassist Dieter, with guitarist Frank Fricke. The group's debut album, 'Vengeance Of Hell', was produced by Alex Thubeauville.

The 'Vengeance Of Hell' album is, naturally, very prehistoric in sound compared to what the group later achieved, so whilst Metal fans either loved its rawness or dismissed it as the worst record they'd ever heard, LIVING DEATH slowly but surely progressed. The Kelch brothers more than most, both later appeared anonymously as part of the MEKONG DELTA project albums.

Releasing the band's second album, 'Metal Revolution' in 1986 the group would eventually be signed to Aaarg Records, although the 'Back To The Weapons' EP was severely censored by the European record industry for its cover art depicting scenes of extreme violence. Copies without a rather large white circular sticker (which, if removed cause severe damage to the sleeve) covering the offending image are extremely hard to find.

By 1988 the band had truncated their title from LIVING DEATH to L.D. and issued the 'World's Neuroses' album. Shortly after its release the Kelch brothers quit and ex-VIOLENT FORCE vocalist Lemmy joined the band. The group's last public line up featured drummer Frank Ulrich, a veteran of MENDACIOUS MESSIAH and X WILD.

LIVING DEATH adopted a name change to SACRED CHAOS in January 1989. By 1990 Fricke had created LAOS for a solitary album in collusion with ex-AVENGER, RAGE and MEKONG DELTA drummer Jörg Michael.

Ultimately, LIVING DEATH drummer Atomic Steif joined SODOM in 1994. Ex-STS 8 MISSION man Rainer Schmitz, drummer with LIVING DEATH between 1995 and 2000, subsequently united with AXE LA CHAPELLE and came back to the fore with Progressive Metal band OVER US EDEN.
