Biography

During mid 2003 the industrious guitarist ROLF MUNKES, having credits with EMPIRE, VANIZE and MAJESTY, founded a fresh side project too dubbed RAZORBACK, a collaboration with former COMPANY OF SNAKES, FOUR STICKS and SNAKES IN PARADISE vocalist Stefan Berggren, ex-SHYLOCK guitarist Chris Heun and the erstwhile VANIZE rhythm section of bassist Marcus Bielenberg and drummer Pierre Fienhold. Bielenberg also boasted prior membership of DANTON whilst Munkes issued a 1998 solo record 'No More Obscurity'. The debut RAZORBACK album 'Animal Anger' was delivered by Massacre Records in March 2003.

In mid 2004 Stefan Berggren reunited with his erstwhile COMPANY OF SNAKES colleagues guitarists MICKY MOODY and BERNIE MARSDEN to front up live gigs for their M3 project. RAZORBACK commenced work at Munkes own Empire Studios on a second album in January 2005. The band parted ways with drummer Pierre Fienhold, citing "personal reasons", replacing him with Andre Hilgers, who had previously worked with MENDACIOUS MESSIAH, VANIZE, THE SYGNET, AXXIS and SILENT FORCE. Munkes also took time out to record guitar parts for a new MAJESTY album. RAZORBACK commenced recordings for a second album, 'Criminal Justice', in July for an October release.

RAZORBACK signed to AOR Heaven Records in September 2006. Rolf Munkes joined the TONY MARTIN band for Russian concerts in November. During January 2007 the MASTERPLAN, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, AXEL RUDI PELL, METALIUM and RAGE credited Mike Terrana laid down drums for a third RAZORBACK album. Subsequently Danny Needham, of BAILEY'S COMET, enrolled on drums.

The group, marketing the 'Deadringer' album, acted as support to CORNERSTONE's April 2007 dates.

In mid 2009 Munkes and Needham united with former BLACK SABBATH members singer Tony Martin and keyboard player Geoff Nicholls to announce the formation of HEADLESS CROSS. This new band was originally set to tour the USA billed as a TONY MARTIN solo band performing tracks from BLACK SABBATH's 1989's 'Headless Cross' album, but upon recommendation from promoters adopted the title of the famous album for the project.
