Biography

An early 90s German Melodic Metal band, LETTER X supported AXXIS, PRETTY MAIDS and STORMWITCH in their time whilst leaving a musical legacy three albums deep. The band debuted with 1991's 'Time Of The Gathering', LETTER X underwent a drastic line- up change for the second album. Prior to the recording of 1992's 'Born Into Darkness' the group parted company with vocalist Martin Obermeier, guitarist Joachim Gassman and drummer Frank Kraus, the latter to end up as drummer for DEMON DRIVE.

New recruits were found in Michael Bomann on vocals, Michael Faisst on guitar and drummer Marco Leva. The departed Obermeier, who had played with bassist Frank Hildenbrandt in MASCOT in pre-LETTER X days, involved himself in a variety of Rock and Pop projects before fronting CHINCHILLA. Gassmann, on the other hand, recorded the 'War Of The Wizard' album with STORMWITCH in 1992.

'Born Into Darkness' was produced by ELOY mainman Frank Bornemann, but a third album (the Japanese only released 'Reflections') would not appear until 1996, by which time LETTER X had found a new singer as Bomann, now going under his real name of MICHAEL BORMANN, had long since formed the rival Melodic Rock outfit JADED HEART.

LETTER X guitarist Rüdiger Fleck wound up joining GLENMORE in July 1997. He would subsequently found the hard edged Metal band RAWHEAD REXX with GLENMORE singer Jurgen Volk. MICHAEL BORMANN, besides his activities with JADED HEART and SILENT FORCE, would issue a debut solo album in February of 2002.
