Biography
Leipzig melodic Death Metal act forged during 1994 with an original line up comprising vocalist / guitarist Tobias Spier, second guitarist Vurtox (a.k.a. Andy Schmidt), bassist Markus Espenhain and drummer Alex Motz. A July 1995 demo session, not offered to the public, found the band in neo-Thrash territory. Espenhain quit the following year for MORHYTHM, just upfront of recordings for a second demo 'Subspace Inanity'. The 'Red' demo followed in 1997. These tapes showed DISILLUSION to be veering into more technically challenging spheres of Death Metal. However, with the defection of Spier and Motz the group disbanded in March 1998.
By the following year Vurtox and Motz had began working together once again, sowing the seeds for a DISILLUSION reformation. Motz would eventually bow out and Vurtox took the reins, soon uniting with guitarist Rajk Barthel of DYING IN SILENCE and LOOM. Session men were recruited for offers of live work but the group then re-shaped itself by inducted the PIGS MUST PURGE duo of guitarist Jörg Heinze and drummer Jens Maluschka. At this juncture Vurtox also enrolled into MOSHQUITO as a side venture.
DISILLUSION re-enrolled Rajk Barthel for recording of 2001's 'Three Neuron Kings' demo. A single, 'The Porter' issued through Voice Of Life Records in 2002, preceded a signature to Metal Blade Records and 2003's 'Back To Times Of Splendor' album.
German shows in the Summer of 2004 found the band performing with an expanded line up of an acoustic guitarist, keyboard player, bassist, and two back-up singers, featuring members of fellow Liepzig band DARK SUNS. DISILLUSION lent support to IMPIOUS and AMON AMARTH on European October gigs. The group acquired new bassist Ralf Willis in March 2005. However, this latest candidate exited in early September.
