Biography
Koblenz, Rhineland based outfit specialising in Black Metal in its rawest form with distinct medieval elements. The group, taking their title from the DESTRUCTION song 'Total Desaster', had originated in 1988 but by 1992, with Early members vocalist / bassistCreator Cassie and drummer Luggi having departed, only guitarist Infernal survived from the original line-up. That year he would be joined by vocalist Okkulto ("Blasphemic death threat") and bass player Odin. DESASTER debuted with the demo 'The Fog Of Avalon', included on which was a live take of VENOM's 'Countess Bathory', followed by a further demo session in 1994 'Lost In The Ages'.
Drummer Thorim (a.k.a. Tobias Moelich) was installed between 1995 and 1996. DESASTER shared their inaugural single with UNGOD, limited to 1000 copies, through Merciless Records. The band's first full length opus, 'A Touch Of Medieval Darkness', arrived in 1996.
The 1997 album 'Stormbringer', the first product with drummer Tormentor, includes a cover of KREATOR's 'Tormentor'. 'Hellfire's Dominion' was delivered in 1998, the track 'Metalized Blood' featuring guests Wannes from PENTACLE, Toto from LIVING DEATH and Lemmie from VIOLENT FORCE. The group also cut SODOM's 'Proselytism Real' for inclusion on a tribute album.
The group's tenth anniversary was marked with the double album 'Ten Years Of Total Desaster', available only in gatefold vinyl format. A further split single followed, DESASTER sharing a 10" vinyl EP with PENTACLE on the Iron Pegasus label. Their 2001 EP 'Souls Of Infernity' saw a rendition of 'Cross Me Fool' originally by Canadian Thrashers RAZOR. That year DESASTER donated their rendition of 'Darkness and Evil' to a SABBAT tribute collection. Drummer Riger would join ANTROPOFAGUS in early 2001 appearing on their 'A Waste Of Flesh' album.
Former DIVINE GENOCIDE singer Sataniac (a.k.a. Guido Wissmann) enrolled as DESASTER's new frontman in late 2001. The 2003 line-up credited singer Sataniac "Spells of vengeance and battle-cry", guitarist Infernal "Six silver strings of hellish cross-fire", bass player Odin "Roaring 4-string battle-axe" and drummer Tormentor "Sodomized drum-chaos and double cannon-fire".
DESASTER undertook extensive Brazilian touring during October of 2005.
In August 2008 it was revealed Tormentor had joined CROM, the band mentored by Walter "Crom" Grosse, formerly of DARK FORTRESS and TEARS OF TIME.
