KARTHAGO

Biography

Rock act known for the inclusion of former JETHRO TULL and WILD TURKEY bassist Glenn Cornick (real name Glenn Douglas Barnard).

KARTHAGO was founded originally as BLUES MACHINE by vocalist / guitarist Joey Albrecht and bassist Gerald Luciano Hartwig. With the inclusion of percussionist Thomas Goldschmitt, keyboard player Ingo Bischof and drummer Wolfgang Brock a new title of KARTHAGO was adopted.

Following the 1971 self titled debut drummer Wolfgang Brock left to join Beat group THE RATTLES and was supplanted by Norbert Lehmann.

Former 2066 & THEN and ABACUS man Konstantin Bommarius joined the band on drums as Lehmann teamed up with EPITAPH. Bischof left to join KRAAN for their 'Let It Out' album and enjoyed a lengthy spell in GURU GURU joining Goldschmidt.

Cornick took the place of Hartwig for the third album 'Rock n' Roll Testament' which found KARTHAGO pursueing a Progressive Rock direction.

KARTHAGO's line up remained unstable and for their 1976 live album 'Live At The Roxy' both Cornick and Bommerarius were out. New members were a returning Hartwig alongside former ATLANTIS and JERONIMO drummer Ringo Funk and ex-HARDCAKE SPECIAL guitarist Reinhard Bopp.

KARTHAGO folded but Albrecht refounded the band for a 1978 album. Joining him were Funk, guitarist Jochen Roth,m brother of SCORPIONS guitarist ULI JON ROTH), bassist Earnst Keinz and keyboard player Chico De Los Reyes. The ensuing album, rather strangely titled 'Love Is A Cake', failed to sell and KARTHAGO split once again.

Roth, now known as Zeno Roth, formed the much lauded Symphonic Rock AORsters ZENO. Hartwig joined GURU GURU for their 1980 album 'Hey Du!' and also had a spell with EMBRYO. Cornick later formed PARIS for two 1976 albums before resurrecting WILD TURKEY in the mid 90's.
