Biography

Conceptual outfit conceived in Hamburg during 1985 and based around the fictional daughter of the flying Dutchman named 'Zed Yago'. The band is characterised by ex-BRESLAU vocalist Jutta Weinhold's distinctive operatic vocal and musical leanings toward the Wagnerian epic.

ZED YAGO's debut would be the Steamhammer Records album 'From Over Yonder' in April 1988. This set was recorded by Jutta Weinhold, guitarist Jimmy Durand, bassist Tach, keyboard player Hansi Kecker and drummer Bubi the Schmied (a.k.a. Claus Reinholdt). The band toured Germany as support to DEEP PURPLE in 1988 and headlined extensively, including UK dates, the following year. An EP release, 'Black Bone Song', also arrived in 1989.

Gunnar was added as second guitarist for the second album 'Pilgrimage'. Released by major label RCA Records, the album was released in Europe and the USA with different track lists. Despite ZED YAGO's high profile and praise for their recorded output the band splintered.

Bubi the Schmied forged VELVET VIPER with Weinhold, guitarist Dave Moore, later of SKYCLAD, and former WARLOCK guitarist Peter Szigeti. ZENO's Jochen Roth guested on guitar. A later VELVET VIPER line-up retained Weinhold and Bubi but added ROY LAST GROUP guitarist Roy Last and a pre-METALIUM Lars Ratz on bass. The drummer also issued an album under the title BUBI THE SCHMEID.

JUTTA WEINHOLD went solo, issuing an album 'To Be Or Not...' in 1993. ZED YAGO pulled in Yvonne Durand as their new singer during 1997, performing with this revised line up at the 'Wacken Open Air' festival that year. After many years absence from the Hard Rock scene Jutta Weinhold made a return in 1999 touting a brand new act succinctly entitled the JUTTA WEINHOLD BAND. Joining the singer for this venture and the album 'In Session' would be guitarist Kai Reuter, bassist Peter Pichl, keyboard player Klaus Henatsch and Sven Petersen on drums.

A ZED YAGO best of compilation 'From The Twilight Zone' was also delivered by the SPV label in November of 2002. The collection included live material dating from 1989 and a video clip for 'Black Bone Song'. Following a brace of shows opening for BONFIRE in February of 2004 the new look ZED YAGO conducted their own 'Welcome To The Return' headline tour of Germany in March.

Twilight Zone Records issued 'The Invisible Guide' album in September 2005. 'Live - The 20th Anniversary Of Zed Yago' emerged in October 2006.
