VELVET VIPER was essentially ZED YAGO reformed by vocalist Jutta and drummer Bubi. The band were unable to use the previous title due to a legal injunction by former ZED YAGO members. The original 1991 Hamburg based line-up of VELVET VIPER included ex-WARLOCK guitarist Peter Szigeti together with British guitarist David Moore.

The first album, an eponymous effort for RCA Records recorded by producer Dirk Steffens at Chateau du Pape and Soundhaus
Studios in Hamburg, featured a guest appearance by ZENO guitarist Joe Roth.Somewhat ambitiously, the set featured a re-worked version of Richard Wagner's 'Perceval'. CD variants hosted an extra song in 'Ring Of Stone'.

VELVET VIPER reformed in 1992, signing to the TAOB label, with Weinhold, Bubi, guitarist Roy Last, ex ROY LAST GROUP, and bassist Lars Ratz. A second album, 'The 4th Quest For Fantasy' produced by Jan Némec and Kalle Bösel, was released in April the same year.

Ratz worked with UDO LINDENBERG and VIVA and would found the successful METALIUM in 1999. Moore teamed up with British Folk Rockers SKYCLAD for tour work whilst Szigeti joined CORACKO, CROWN OF THORNS and STONEWASHED.

Another erstwhile VELVET VIPER member, guitarist Olaf Lenk, would later forge Power Metal band AT VANCE.
