Biography

IRON SAVIOR was a throwback to one of guitarist and German national Heavy Metal hero Kai Hansen's pre HELLOWEEN and GAMMA RAY acts. Hansen resurrected IRON SAVIOR as his project band in the late 90's. The band can be traced back as far as vocalist Piet Sielck and guitarist Kai Hansen's school act GENTRY. This act was to win a school competition with a combination of original songs and covers from URIAH HEEP, LED ZEPPELIN and BLACK SABBATH. A demo was recorded before the addition of drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg and guitarist Markus Großkopf as a name change ensued to SECOND HELL. Tracks written during this period such as 'Gorgon', 'Phantoms Of Death', 'Murder' and 'Victim Of Fate' would later come to attention on the debut HELLOWEEN album. This period also saw the birth of the latter day GAMMA RAY track 'Heading For Tomorrow'.

Sielck left the band a year before SECOND HELL morphed into HELLOWEEN. Sielck's path would cross Hansen's some three years later and the former frontman would end up engineering the debut GAMMA RAY album. Sielck would also earn production credits with BLIND GUARDIAN, DOMAIN, SAXON, URIAH HEEP and GRAVE DIGGER. Having also written songs during this hectic schedule Sielck reunited with Hansen to forge IRON SAVIOR in January of 1997. The project was widely regarded in Germany as Hansen's more light hearted method off letting off steam. A curious appraisal bearing in mind the popular guitarist's irrepressible grin during most GAMMA RAY performances. The debut eponymous album sees a cover of 'This Flight Tonight', a track made popular by NAZARETH.

IRON SAVIOR's 1998 German tour, with GAMMA RAY's Dan Zimmermann on drums, saw EDGUY as support act. In spite of being kick started as a fun project IRON SAVIOR soon found themselves not only in possession of increasing album sales but a loyal fan base to boot. The 1999 'Interlude' mini album, which saw erstwhile GAMMA RAY and ANESTHESIA man Thomas Nack handling drum duties, sees a collection of live tracks including a cover of JUDAS PRIEST's 'Desert Plains'.

IRON SAVIOUR supported RUNNING WILD on their 2000 tour of Germany. The late 2000 single release 'I've Been To Hell' included cover versions of JUDAS PRIEST's 'Hellion- Electric Eye' and the KROKUS track 'Headhunter'.

In 2001 the band announced that Hansen was to leave the ranks due to constant timing clashes with GAMMA RAY. The two parties separated as friends after a headline European tour supported by LABYRINTH and NOCTURNAL RITES and Hansen's place would be filled by Joachim 'Piesel' Kustner. Bassist Jan S. Eckert would join the MASTERPLAN post HELLOWEEN endeavour of guitarist ROLAND GRAPOW and drummer Uli Kusch during 2002. Meantime Piet Sielck found space to produce the 'Against The World' debut from Italian Power Metal act AIRBORN.

The band's 2002 album 'Condition Red' would once more bear witness to IRON SAVIOR's reverence of JUDAS PRIEST, Japanese editions featuring the bonus cover version 'Living After Midnight'. Drummer Thomas Nack injured his hand just upfront of the group's appearance at the 'Wacken Open Air' festival. IRON SAVIOR persevered, pulling in former HELLOWEEN and current MASTERPLAN drummer Uli Kusch as substitute for the show. Projected German dates would be pushed back in order to accommodate Nack's recuperation. Still further health problems hit the band in June as IRON SAVIOR was forced to withdraw from a scheduled appearance at the inaugural BLIND GUARDIAN open air festival in Germany after guitarist Joachim Küstner contracted an acute ear infection.

Piet Sielck took September of 2004 out of band activities to act as producer for Swedish act PERSUADER's 'Evolution Purgatory' album. IRON SAVIOR then got back into motion, drafting new bassist Yenz Leonhardt, previously rhythm guitarist for KINGDOM COME, in December. The revised band unit entered Karo studios in Brackel, Germany during early 2004 to record a new studio album billed as 'Metalizer'. Sielck took on further production duties, crafting a new album for Australian band BLACK MAJESTY in November.

Sielck would also get heavily involved with SAVAGE CIRCUS, a brand new band unit constructed by longstanding BLIND GUARDIAN drummer Thomas Stauch, who opted out of the leading German epic Metal band in April 2005, along with PERSUADER members vocalist / guitarist Jens Karlsson and lead guitarist Emil Norberg. The concept had been initiated in May of 2004 when Sielck suggested some demos cut by Stauch were similar in to the PERSUADER material. Initial demos, with Sielck handling bass guitar, were cut at Powerhouse Studios in Hamburg during August. SAVAGE CIRCUS signed to Sielck's label Dockyard 1 and commenced album recordings in February 2005 at Karo Studios. 'Dreamland Manor' would be scheduled for September.
