In March 2006 Sri Lankan born vocalist Chitral Somapala announced the formation of a new "atmospheric, bone-crushing power metal" band called CIVILIZATION ONE. Previous band exploits for Somapala included AVALON, FARO, MOONLIGHT AGONY, RED CIRCUIT and FIREWIND.

With CIVILIZATION ONE he would be joined by an international roster of players comprising guitarist Aldo Lanobile of SECRET SPHERE, bassist Pierre-Emmanuel Pélisson of HEAVENLY and MALADAPTIVE, the TIME FOR A CHANGE, MIND'S ORCHARD, SHADRANE and LALU credited Vivian Lalu on keyboards plus Luca Cartasegna, from MORTUARY DRAPE and SECRET SPHERE on drums. CIVILIZATION ONE commenced album recordings in August in Alessandria, Italy at Secret Sphere Studios. Chity Somapala put down his vocal tracks at Bazement Studios in Germany.

Chitral Somapala joined DOMAIN in November 2006. CIVILIZATION ONE signed with Metal Heaven Records in March 2007 to release 'Revolution Rising' in June. Japanese variants hosted the extra track 'Out In The Rain'. CIVILIZATION ONE credited Jesper Stotz with keyboards on the album although in reality this new recruit did not feature on the tracks. The unit then underwent a period of flux as teplaced keyboard player Jesper Stotz with second guitarist Christian Münzner and both Luca Cartasegna and Aldo Lonobile left the band independently of each other in late 2007. Holger Rodammer, of AIMLESS and Trier's HELLMASTERS, assumed drum duties but the group suffered further setbacks in 2008 as both guitar players Christian Münzner and Björn Daigger, plus Rodammer, took their leave that October.

Marking a homecoming for Somapala, CIVILIZATION ONE performed in Colombo, Sri Lanka in November 2008 as part of the TNL Onstage event at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre, the first time a Western metal group has played in the country. Kai Mühlenbruch, of GALLOGLASS and DESOLATION, acted as fill in guitar player. By this stage the drum stool was occupied by the DORNENREICH and FINAL CHAPTER credited Michael Stein whilst the ICED EARTH associate Tim Mills was installed on guitar.

CIVILIZATION ONE entered Pelissound Studio in France during April 2009 to begin recording its sophomore album. Ex-guitarist Christian Münzner joined Swedish technical Death Metal outfit SPAWN OF POSSESSION in June 2009. By late August it was revealed that the CIVILIZATION ONE album 'Calling The Gods', having been mixed by Markus Teske, featured a guest solo by HELLOWEEN guitarist Sascha Gerstner.
