Biography
Heavy Rockers founded in 1992 out of Munich, AVALON came on the scene with the 'More Than Words' mini album. The band's opening line-up comprised frontman Many Stürner, guitarist Sebastian Eder, bass player Petra Hasselkuss, keyboard player Jens Kuckelkorn and on drums Peter 'Ringo' Kei. In a spirit of enterprise the band promoted their opening 'One Night' demo by touring Southern Germany and even Canada. AVALON toured America and Canada on the back of their full-length debut 'Why Now' debut returning to Europe to open for SAVATAGE, GOTTHARD and SINNER.
AVALON's third album, 'Mystic Places', was produced by the esteemed Charlie Bauerfeind. AVALON toured as guest to URIAH HEEP to promote the album although drummer Peter Kei had to be replaced mid tour because of spinal problems. His substitute was Ronny Dehn.
Previous to recording the 'Vision Eden' record vocalist Marty Stumer quit, the singer having throat problems. AVALON pulled in ex-COURT JESTER man the Sri Lankan born Chitral Chity Somapala, the resulting 'Eurasia' album being imbued with far Eastern influences. AVALON also increased their international membership for this album by drafting French drummer Jacques Voutay.
Somapala would divert off to found a side outing entitled THE SILHOUETTE in early 2001 in collusion with guitarist Lou St. Paul from American Metal band WINTER'S BANE. The singer subsequently commenced on a further project dubbed FARO in league with MIND'S EYE drummer Daniel Flores and by August of 2003 would be found fronting Swedish act MOONLIGHT AGONY. Chity Somapala would be drafted as a quickfire substitute to from FIREWIND's tour of Japan in January of 2004. In September 2005 Somapala announced a union with ex-FREEDOM CALL bassist Ilker Ersin in new project POWERWORLD, although his tenure with this outfit would be brief.
In March 2006 Somapala announced the formation of a new "atmospheric, bone-crushing power metal" band called CIVILIZATION ONE. Here he would be joined by an international roster of players comprising guitarist Aldo Lanobile of SECRET SPHERE, bassist Pierre-Emmanuel Pélisson of HEAVENLY and MALADAPTIVE, the SHADRANE and LALU credited Vivian Lalu on keyboards plus Luca Cartasegna, from MORTUARY DRAPE and SECRET SPHERE on drums.
