Biography

Stuttgart's WASTELAND rank as one of the new breed of pure Thrash Metal acts although the group's origins trace back to the mid eighties. The band's first recordings came with the demo 'Warriors Of The Wasteland', recorded in October 1990 at L-Sound Studio in Emmendingen. WASTELAND at this juncture comprised singer Roland Seidel, guitarist Davor Sertic, bass player Markus Plattner and drummer Klaus Sperling. Shortly after these sessions WASTELAND added second guitarist Stefan Leibing but soon folded. Liebling hooked up with PRIMAL FEAR. Singer Roland Seidel subsequently featured on CYBERTRASH's 2001 album 'Wahnsinns Programm' and also worked with LAZZER and KAMINARI.

The group was re-assembled during 1995 with a line-up comprising guitarists Stephan Kern and Tobias Kramer, bass player Frank Neugebauer and drummer Frank Gottschalk. Tobias Schmalfeld was soon added as lead vocalist. However, Kramer decamped in April of 1995 but would return by the November.

WASTELAND debuted with the privately issued 'Mare Tranquillitatis' mini album but would be shaken when, in January of 1996, Neugebauer announced his departure. Within 24 hours WASTELAND had plugged the gap drafting André Ipfling. In September of 1997 the band went back into the studio to record the full length 'Genuine Parts' album. Released in May of 1998 'Genuine Parts' garnered healthy press reports enabling WASTELAND to put in live appearances at festivals such as the 'Schweizer Garten' in Wittenberg in March 1997 and the 'Fuck the Commerce II' festival in 1998.

WASTELAND have contributed to various compilation collections including 'Deathophobia IV', 'Bullet In The Head I' and 'European Deathophobia'. During 1999 the band cut a whole slew of cover tracks for the American Dwell label contributing versions of 'Reckoning Day' to a MEGADETH tribute, 'Evil Dead' to a DEATH homage, 'Time Is Coming' to a TESTAMENT album. The group even donated AC/DC's 'Riff Raff' and LED ZEPPELIN's 'Waering And Tearing' to tribute collections.
